Announcements from the Initiative, kept here as a record of how the work was communicated while it was under way.

Reports published in 2010

Two reports published in October 2010 looked at how the Initiative took shape and at what could be measured in student results. One presented the independent analysis by ECONorthwest; the other offered the Initiative's own overview of how the programme was designed and delivered. Both are summarised on the Composite Results page.

The E3 newsletter

E3 sent out an electronic newsletter four times a year, with news from the programme and accounts of what was going well in schools. It was the Initiative's main channel for reaching educators, partners and community members between formal reports, and it remains a useful example of how a long reform effort can keep its community informed.

Leadership institutes

The Initiative convened institutes for the people leading the work in schools and districts. Principals, teacher leaders, district administrators and school board members were all welcome. A typical programme combined opportunities to network, accounts of success from principals, teachers and students, sessions on promising practice drawn from Oregon schools themselves, and a panel discussion with state policy experts.

One institute, held in Ashland, Oregon, featured a keynote from Linda Nathan, then headmaster of the Boston Arts Academy and author of a book on the hardest questions in school leadership. The day closed in the early afternoon and was followed by a hosted reception.
